Yoga Poses for the Waxing Gibbous Moon

My favourite yoga poses to practice under the energy of the Waxing Gibbous Moon.

Yoga Poses for the First Quarter Moon

Yoga Poses for the Waxing Gibbous Moon

As the Moon swells in the sky, approaching fullness, we step into the energy of the Waxing Gibbous phase, a time of refinement, intuition, and preparation. This is the final push before the Full Moon, when our intentions and dreams are nearly ready to blossom, but we’re being called to make subtle shifts, trust our inner wisdom, and fine-tune our focus.

In yoga, we can mirror this energy through poses that cultivate awareness, build strength and flexibility, and allow space for inner listening. The Waxing Gibbous Moon invites us to check in: What’s working? What needs adjusting? How can we align more fully with our purpose? These five yoga poses help you stay present in the process, tune into your intuition, and continue building momentum with clarity and grace.

Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose)

Woman doing a yoga pose outdoors at sunset, balancing with one leg raised. Sun flares and grassy field create a serene ambiance.

This pose directly reflects the lunar energy, a balance of strength and surrender, action and awareness. Ardha Chandrasana opens the heart, strengthens the legs and core, and improves concentration and coordination.

During the Waxing Gibbous Moon, Half Moon Pose is a beautiful way to embody equilibrium as you make final adjustments to your intentions. It encourages you to find steadiness even when you're expanding, reminding you that balance is key to sustainable growth.

Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose)

Woman practicing yoga outdoors on green grass, wearing pink top and gray leggings. She's smiling, surrounded by lush trees and sunshine.

This pose calls for grounding, twisting, and reaching, all at once. It’s a posture of clarity, detoxification, and inner strength, making it perfect for this reflective and intuitive moon phase.

Revolved Triangle helps clear energetic and physical stagnation, supporting the clarity we need to refine our goals. Twists also symbolically and physically help us release what’s no longer aligned, making space for focused forward movement.

Ustrasana (Camel Pose)

Woman in bright orange top doing a yoga stretch on a purple mat in a grassy field, with distant hills under a clear sky. Calm mood.

A heart-opening pose that builds courage and connection to your emotional centre, Camel Pose helps release fear, deepen breath, and energise the whole system.

This is the time to trust your vision and lead from the heart. Ustrasana invites vulnerability and openness, encouraging you to keep moving forward even when doubt arises. It's a powerful ally for awakening your intuitive power and strengthening your belief in your path.

Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose)

Woman in pink top and black leggings lies on floor with legs up wall in a serene room with patterned curtains. Relaxed mood.

While the Waxing Gibbous Moon is full of upward momentum, it also invites us to rest and reflect. Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose is a gentle inversion that calms the nervous system, soothes mental chatter, and allows space for intuitive insights to rise.

This pose provides balance to more dynamic practices and mirrors the stillness needed for refinement. It encourages you to slow down just enough to hear the wisdom guiding your next steps.

Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (Pigeon Pose)

Woman in tan yoga attire practices pigeon pose on a pink mat in a bright room with plants outside large windows, calm and focused.

This deep hip opener helps release emotional tension and invites inner surrender. As we move closer to the Full Moon, Pigeon Pose creates space — physically and energetically — to listen deeply to our bodies and hearts.

This is a posture of preparation. It asks you to soften, open, and stay present with what arises. The Waxing Gibbous Moon encourages intuitive listening, and Pigeon Pose offers the perfect stillness for that inner dialogue to unfold.

The Waxing Gibbous Moon is all about adjustment, intuition, and committed effort. It's the moment in the lunar cycle when your intentions are nearly ready to manifest — but the final refinements make all the difference. These yoga poses can help you tune into that subtle wisdom, cultivate clarity, and align your energy with the lunar rhythm.

As you practise, remember: your body holds its own intelligence. Trust it, listen to it, and let it guide you through the final steps before the Full Moon's culmination.
